Genova Italia - San Fruttuoso

Genova Italia - San Fruttuoso

If you know me at all, you know that I have a thing for Italy. Yes, a romantic relationship with Italy and yes it's getting serious. I have a billion things to say about my past trips to Italy, but I'll begin with the most recent trip.

This past summer (2015) I studied in Genova for six weeks. Genova is located in the region of Liguria and it's all along the north-west coast of Italy, close to France. One day we took a special boat trip to San Fruttuoso, a private beach that is very much off the beaten path.

To get to San Fruttuoso you can take the train or a boat. We took a beautiful boat ride and I highly recommend that over the train. The boat took us from Camogli to San Fruttuoso and as you go down the coast you can see the colorful homes in each town along the blue sea.

This is the town of Camogli. You cannot see San Fruttuoso in this picture because it is hidden behind the mountain, talk about exclusive.

As we motored to the cove, we passed by the gorgeous and rugged coastline. There were mountain goats taking in a view of us from this point. I think being a goat in Italy would be great! If I were a goat I would eat my own homework, oh wait goats don't do homework. Either way, I can't get enough of these views and neither could the goats.

Once we arrived we dropped our bags and immediately jumped in that blue sparkling water. There was a Californian Water Polo team (weird) that was jumping off the rocks and so we all climbed up and did the same. It amazes me that in Europe there are no rules! There are a lot of rules about eating, but man, they'll let you throw your kid off a cliff and no one blinks an eye. I mean if your kid is a real asshole then I can understand, but not the nice kids!

Finally it was time to go back and we boarded back onto this boat for the journey. Leaving San Fruttuoso gave me some serious separation anxiety. It is certainly one of the best-kept secrets in Liguria and I hope it stays that way. So go there, but don't tell ALL of your friends, understand? Maybe tell like 3-4 people, but don't tell receptionist at the Dentist's office. She doesn't deserve to know, she's always so rude!

Ciao. A dopo San Fruttuoso.
