All Natural Dyed Easter Eggs

All Natural Dyed Easter Eggs

All natural dyed eggs with ONION SKINS! 🧅🥚 I learned this Czech method from my Au Pair, Jana, when she came to stay with us in 2001. See how they’re made here.

Ingredients/Tools

  • 1 dozen white eggs

  • 1 pair light-colored nylon stockings, cut into 4” squares

  • String or dental floss

  • The crunchy skins from 2 bags of yellow onions

  • Fresh flowers, grasses and foliage that have distinct lines

  • Olive oil for shining

Make them!

  1. Peel crunchy onions skins and place them in a large pot of water. Bring to a boil and cook skins in water for 30 minutes to an hour, until the water looks brownish/red.

  2. Collect fresh flowers, grasses and foliage.

  3. While holding the 4” cut-out in your hand, create designs using the fresh greens. Start simple and you can always get more elaborate as you go! Pull the stocking very tightly around the egg (careful to not disturb your design) and tie the end with string or floss.

  4. Bring your onion skin water back to a boil (with the skins still in!). Carefully place eggs into the pot and bring up to a gentle boil. Cook for 10-15 minutes, until eggs begin to look golden brown/red.

  5. Remove eggs and allow to cool. Once cooled, cut stockings off of the eggs and peel away the greens to reveal your design! Shine the eggs with a bit of olive oil.
